Flying “The Beast” in Toro Verde, PR.

Last Updated on March 29, 2024 by Travelationship

While in Puerto Rico, we decided to try out some zip-lining. Naturally, that meant only one thing: The Beast. It was the highest zip line in the world and the longest and fastest in the Western Hemisphere. They offered a package deal that included transportation to and from our hotel, lunch, and an eight-run zip-line canopy tour through the park, with the finale being “The Beast.” How can you pass it up?!?

Since our visit, they have outdone themselves and created “The Monster.” It is now the longest zip-line in the Americas at 2.5km (2530m, 8300ft, 1.57 mi). Under the proper conditions, you can reach speeds of 95 mph, so we will definitely need to return to the park to experience this new marvel.

The Setting

The Beast – Altitude: 853 ft. Distance: 4,745 ft. Speed: up to 65 mph.

The course is on 316 acres of Toro Verde National Park on the island of Puerto Rico. On top of The Beast, they have an eight-run zip-line course that takes you through the lush treetops of a rainforest that averages 2.5 hours to complete. One run called the Phoenix takes you a distance of 2,526 feet at a soaring height of 623 feet. The scenery is spectacular as you glide over peaks, valleys, rivers, waterfalls, and trails. The park offers zip-lining, suspension bridges, hiking trails, rappelling, and horizontal rock climbing. The park is open year-round, and reservations are required.

The Crew

Our crew was spot on, from the driver down to the cashier. Because the package we chose included hotel pickup and drop-off, our experience included one additional team member. Our driver was helpful, informative, and friendly; he watched over us all day and ensured we got our lunch. The rest of the staff were concerned with safety first and that all participants were having fun. A set of guides is assigned to the group completing the course, and they take excellent care of their charges.

Thoughts on the Beast

The Beast proved to be a worthy crown jewel of the park, and I enjoyed the feeling of flight. I have tried other zip-lining facilities, and I have to say this course was visually the prettiest one I have used. Zipping through trees and over streams and waterfalls made for a thrilling time. Great heights and excellent speeds kept my attention throughout the runs in the park. They had a top-notch staff that was great to spend time with, although I have yet to run across a bad team in this industry. Reservations are required if you want to go zip-lining in the park; use the number or email below.

  1. Omagoodness, this is so far away from something I would EVER do. I’m glad there are adventurous people like you to do this and share your joy for it. And now I look forward to reading something from you about hang-gliding or something… #daredevils.

  2. That’s really impressive ! Lucky you, they equipped you well… It reminded me this time when a “friend” of mine took me for a via ferrata in Grenoble. At the middle of the way, as I was totally terrified, I checked my equipment. This stupid guy had put it so badly that it was as if I had nothing !

    • Yikes! Via Ferratas are no joke. I had to turn back on one half way through because I was shaking from being so cold. I couldn’t hold on to the hand rails properly, but I was harnessed properly. I can’t imagine realizing you are not secured in. Glad you are ok.

      • Oh yes, this guy was totally crazy ! This via ferrata in Grenoble is one of the most difficult in France and it was my first (and only) one. Even at the beginning, he had to push me as I couldn’t take the first hold. At the middle way, I was so terrified that I couldn’t go further, but I had no choice as I had to return through the same scaring way. So I continued… Not my best souvenir !
