Malaga, Spain’s Street Art

As soon as we stepped out of our taxi into our La Merced neighborhood, we were in awe of the murals. We weren’t surprised to find murals, but the quality and quantity were fantastic. It’s unsurprising since Málaga has such a tie-in with Pablo Picasso. One of the many reasons we liked Málaga was because of the street art found all over the city.

Street Art in Málaga, Spain

We found tons of murals north and northeast of Plaza de la Merced. I am guessing that street art changes quickly in these parts because we also saw a lot of tagging on top of some pieces. But even so, the turnover to correct the tagging seemed to move just as quickly.

One of our mornings we spent specifically wandering for street art in La Merced, Centro Histórico, and a small part of the Soho neighborhoods. We could have easily spent more than a full day looking for pieces, but our time was limited.

Keep an eye on your surroundings. There were a couple of streets that may have seemed questionable, so rather than take any chances, we just went in a different direction. No worries to us because there were plenty of decorated streets to stroll.

We were there in May, and morning temps were perfect for pursuing street art. Many streets in Málaga are shaded, which makes for pleasant walks.

How to Get to and Around Málaga

There are many options to get to Málaga – by air, train, bus, or car. We found it really easy to walk around the city. The public transportation was super easy to use. We only used a ride-share service when going to/from the bus station because we didn’t want to carry our luggage.

Málaga Street Art Resources

We found this Guide to Málaga’s Street Art helpful during our research. Remember that street murals are subject to change, be damaged, or tagged at any time. However, we found the general areas to be spot on, with even more pieces throughout the city.

  1. We must go – it looks great! We had 3 lovely students staying with us from Malaga last week – we’re planning on visiting them anyway. Even more of an incentive now! X
