Hera and Akut – San Francisco

Recently, we met Amanda during our Danakil Depression tour in Ethiopia. We quickly learned she is an avid birder (705 bird species spotted in 2015) and traveler. Best of all, she shares my obsession with street art. I asked her to share a few of her favorite pieces, and she enthusiastically accepted.

Keep your eyes peeled. Look at the walls, peer at the sidewalks – and who knows what artistic treasures you might find. Some call it graffiti while others prefer the term ‘street art’. These murals, tags and stencils brighten up boroughs across the cities of the world. Here are a few of my favourite street art sightings from my last ten years of travel and around my hometown of San Francisco.
