I wasn’t sure what to expect on our trip to Bratislava. We didn’t intend to hunt down street art, but we always keep an eye out for exciting work. Stopping for a coffee break and some wi-fi to look up additional information about the city is when we got our first break. Heather found an article about the Bratislava Street Art Festival, and suddenly I was highly interested. We weren’t lucky enough to be there while it was still going on, but the article described where the festival had taken place.
Street Art in Bratislava
We were armed with new information we set off in search of the festival’s old location. My hopes were dashed as we turned onto the main street and found the entire block under construction. Most pieces were gone or showed damage and severe signs of wear. We found some excellent examples left, but it wasn’t the jackpot I was hoping to uncover. Feeling discouraged, we wandered back towards the city center and its historical sites.
That is when we found the most significant discovery of the city in the form of a small SNP bus station under the UFO bridge near St. Martin’s Cathedral. Bratislava surprised me, and I hope they continue to have their street art festival to encourage the trove of talented artists in the city. They don’t just offer street art; you can also find playful statues scattered throughout the city.
