Going into Udaipur, we had read that the city was artistic and colorful. We could see and feel the creative vibes as soon as we arrived. Our excitement to explore Udaipur’s murals was high.
There was a wonderful range of traditional and religious paintings and even a few modern paintings scattered around town.
Street Art in Udaipur, India
We visited in April and felt the weather was perfect.
It was easy to find pieces all over town. The largest concentration of traditional mural stories was right off the Chandpole Bridge. The walls on both sides of the canal depict stories of Indian history.
As you walk about town, keep an eye out for paintings of all sizes. The art can be found on homes, businesses, religious structures, and city walls. Also, explore the neighborhoods on both sides of the Old City bridges. Some huge, vibrant pieces are over by Ambrai Ghat at Manj ka Mandir.
We enjoyed exploring the Old City in the morning before it got too warm and busy; however, we walked around at all hours and felt safe. Don’t stress about getting lost. We found the locals in Udaipur to be so friendly and helpful. We didn’t get too far outside the Old City, but when we were departing, we saw a few notable murals and wished we had had more time to explore the main city.
How to Get to and Around Udaipur
The Maharana Pratap, aka Dabok domestic airport, serves the area. Udaipur has two bus stations, Udaipur City Railway and Rana Pratap Nagar Railway Stations. Once in Udaipur, we used a taxi to get to/from the Old City. And in the Old City, we walked to most places and took an auto rickshaw when we wandered too far away.
