Street Art Sydney Australia

Maynard’s Street Art Obsession – Sydney, Australia

By: Matthew

Prior to my arrival in Australia, I had read numerous times that Melbourne was the city to beat when it came to street art down under. So we recruited help from our good friends at Global Greeters to give us a tour. Thus when we found street after street lined with art; I was surprised.

The neighborhoods of Enmore and Newtown were our focus. Both areas had variety and quality, which lead to a very pleasant walk. We used King and Enmore streets as our main arteries. With Gladstone, Phillip, and Lennox as side streets to hunt down a lot of great pieces. Outside of the street art, we found King Street to be an excellent walk of its own. It was loaded with good looking restaurants and shops. There didn’t seem to be a desire to insert your piece right on top of two or three others. Which is the thing I liked most about the Sydney art scene over Melbourne’s.

Making your way to the famous Bondi Beach, well you are in for a treat, as there are several excellent panels along the boardwalk. While I didn’t get a chance to explore the area around the beach, I noticed several pieces on the drive over. All and all I found Syndey to be a great place to view street art and would recommend it to anyone who is an enthusiast. If you are interested in seeing more street art head here to see my findings from other cities. Want to see my guide to street art look here.

Thanks, we enjoyed walking around Sydney looking for street art and were happy with our results. There is a ton of good pieces to be found there. While I agree Melbourne is famous for more than street art, they often make the list of best cities in the world to visit to see just that.

  1. Beautiful street arts. I love the street arts. I always find them closer to the culture and tradition of the place – some places modern, sometimes traditional. The Sydney one has quiet a few angles to it.

  2. Highlighting street art in Australia is really cool and helpful. We usually associate Australia (whatever city) with it natural beauty, but your spotlight on street art opens up a whole other realm of beauty to experience. We really appreciate that.

  3. Whoa. I am excited to see one of the wall art depicting Lord Ganesha. He is a much revered God in my country India. It’s exciting to see Him on the walls of Australia.

  4. Love this post. King street was my old stomping ground back in the 90s and it always showed signs of promise. Great to see how far it has come along. Must get back and have a wander around and see the magnificent art work on display.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane and reminding me to get home and see it again.
    Cheers
    James

  6. Some wonderful stuff here (who can’t help but love Batpug & I’m always a sucker for Tintin, even in stencil form), but Melbourne’s street art surely still reigns supreme 😉
